Breakdown of Victim Demographics
The majority of rape victims were females over the age of 16, accounting for 1,380 reported cases, a notable rise from 1,268 in the prior year and 940 in 2013. In contrast, the rape and attempted rape of females under 16 saw a slight decrease from 461 to 451. However, the rape and attempted rape of males over 16 rose sharply from 63 to 71, a significant jump from just 18 in 2013. Similarly, cases involving males under 16 increased from 53 to 62.

While rape cases have surged, the overall recorded crime in Scotland increased by a modest 1%, from 286,464 to 289,352.
